Urmston Books and Board Games occupies a shop on Flixton Road that had housed a bookshop for well over a decade before the current owners took it over in October 2024. The family-run business kept the bookselling side going while adding a board game café, with tables where customers can order a drink and play games bought from the shelves or brought from home. The shop stocks fiction, children's titles and a range of board games, and hosts regular events aimed at younger readers alongside adult book groups. It has been recognised by Manchester City of Literature as part of the city's network of independent bookshops, and continues to trade as a genuinely local, family-owned concern.
