The Wandering Palate opened on Monton Road in 2021, started by Will and Emma Evans after seven years living in the village left them wanting the food and drink options they associated with city living. Emma's background in arts and fashion and Will's experience with craft beer and breweries shaped the range: wine, craft beer, UK cheese and charcuterie sit alongside tea, coffee and other larder goods, much of it chosen from producers the couple encountered on their travels. The shop describes itself as a village wine shop that offers more than the name suggests, running tasting events and a rewards scheme for regulars. It fills a gap left by the absence of an independent bottle shop or deli in this stretch of Eccles and Monton.
