Heaton Hops opened in 2014 in a former shop on School Lane in Heaton Chapel, founded by Damian O'Shea and Charlotte Winstone, and has run as a bottle shop and small tap house ever since. Eight keg lines and two handpulls serve local and UK breweries such as Northern Monk, Verdant and Track alongside European and American imports, and customers can fill a flagon to take home rather than only drinking on the premises. Shelves hold several hundred bottled and canned beers, plus cider, gin and whisky, arranged by style from pale ales and stouts to sours and lambics. It was voted Best Pub in the Manchester Evening News CityLife Awards in 2015. Free local delivery is available above thirty-five pounds. The shop keeps a small footprint on a residential side street near Heaton Chapel station, closed on Mondays and quiet compared with the city-centre beer bars.
