Vinomondo occupies 19 High Street in Conwy, set up in 2009 by Julie Mills, a plumber who sold her house to buy what was then Conwy Fine Wines, six months after the financial crash. Since then the shop has grown to include an upstairs bar lounge and a wine garden, and now stocks more than 100 Welsh suppliers alongside wines, beers and spirits from across the world. The business has been named Best Wine Shop in Wales and placed 31st out of 928 independent merchants in Harpers' 50 Best Indies list. Regular in-shop and online tastings run alongside a click-and-collect and home delivery service, and the garden serves wines and platters together with pizzas from a partner supplier. Fifteen years after Mills took over the shop, Vinomondo remains independently owned and run from its single High Street premises, and has been credited locally with helping other independent traders take on units in the town.
