A bookshop has traded on Cheap Street for more than forty years, and since 2016 it has belonged to Wayne Winstone, who bought the freehold and runs it as one of three Winstone's shops — Sherborne and Sidmouth are the siblings, each run independently with no shared stock, a group only in surname. The British Book Awards named it the South West's independent bookshop of the year in 2020. More than nine thousand titles stand in the shop with half a million a day away, author events run through the calendar, and on the first Sunday of the month it opens with the street market outside.
