Artmetal

Artmetal has traded as a blacksmith and metalwork studio since 1982, under the registered name J W and A J Barrett Ltd. The business moved into larger premises on the former Old Builders estate on East Street in Rhayader in 2021, adding an in-house spray shop and purpose-built forge, fabrication and cutting areas. Work covers mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper and wrought iron, made to commission for domestic, heritage, ecclesiastical and public-art clients; completed pieces have been installed at Kew Gardens, Hampton Court and Blenheim Palace. An outdoor showroom on East Street displays finished gates, planters and sculptural pieces for sale. The workshop also runs bookable blacksmithing experience sessions for individuals and families alongside its trade commissions. Artmetal's client base originally covered Worcestershire and neighbouring English counties before expanding to serve the whole of Wales from 2021. The workshop opens Monday to Friday, with weekend visits by appointment.
