Ballydougan · Newry, Mourne & ArmaghSurveyed

Sean O'Dowd has thrown country-style stoneware at Ballydougan since 1984, working from Bloomvale House on the Plantation Road outside Portadown. The house is a grade II listed thatched building put up in 1785 by a Huguenot linen family named Gascoigne, and used as a merchant's house and linen processing centre before O'Dowd restored it and its outbuildings from 1996. The pottery carries the Design and Crafts Council Ireland's Made Local certification, and a visitor can book a one-to-one masterclass at the wheel. There is a restaurant and a shop on the site, open Monday to Saturday.
