Best Yorkshire Boating operates Apollo, a working narrowboat built in 1929 as a horse-drawn cargo vessel and converted to motor power in 1936. After decades hauling coal and later working as a canal tug, Apollo was adapted for passenger trips in the 1970s and has since been restored to reflect her appearance as a 1950s working boat. She is entered on the National Historic Ships Register. Trips depart from Leeds Dock on the Aire and Calder Navigation, running from ninety minutes up to a full day, with passengers invited to help steer, work the locks and hear the boat's history from the skipper. The pace is deliberately unhurried rather than a scenic-cruise formula. The operation runs a single historic vessel rather than a fleet, with bookings taken directly through its own website.
