The Black Lion Royal Hotel on Lampeter's High Street is a Grade II listed former coaching inn dating to the 1700s, when it served as a stop for horse-drawn coaches before becoming a hotel by 1871. Brains operated the pub as a tied house until it reopened as an independent free house on 30 November 2018. The building now holds eighteen en-suite rooms alongside its bar and restaurant, plus a beer garden balcony. Food is home-cooked from locally sourced ingredients and the menu changes seasonally. The pub opens from midday at weekends and from mid-afternoon on weekdays, and keeps a rotating guest ale rather than a single house beer, drawing regular CAMRA attention for its real ale range.
