Conti's has been on Harford Square in Lampeter since the 1930s, when Artillio Conti came from Bardi, in the Italian Apennines, to open a café — one of the many Welsh-Italian cafés that emigrant families built across the valleys and the west. Four generations on, Jo Conti runs it with her son Tom Lewis, who makes the ice cream that has always been the draw. It came through a first-ever winter closure in 2022, when the bills spiked, and kept going. A proper Italian café of the old Welsh kind, still in the family that started it. Order a coffee and an ice cream and sit a while; that is the point of the place.
