Crates Is High occupies a small shopfront at 2 Northgate Street in Launceston, next door to Liberty Coffee, and is run by Simon, who also operates the Futuristica Music record label from the same address. The stock runs to new and second-hand vinyl, CDs, cassettes and turntables, with the shelves weighted toward soul, jazz, funk, hip-hop, electronica, reggae and library music rather than current chart releases. Simon buys and sells whole record collections, so the stock changes week to week rather than following a set reordering pattern. He also runs pop-up record shops at events elsewhere in Cornwall and Devon when the shop itself is closed. Opening hours run Tuesday to Saturday, ten until four, shorter than a typical high street retailer, reflecting the shop's size and its owner's other commitments to the label. There is no mail order operation.
