Great Newsome Brewery was launched in 2007 by the Hodgson family, who have farmed at Great Newsome Farm near Winestead, in the Holderness countryside east of Hull, for four generations. What began as a side project to the arable farm now brews a range of cask and bottled British beers, among them Frothingham Best and Jem's Stout, using home-grown malt and the brewery's own yeast. Frothingham Best has taken honours at the World Beer Awards. The brewery remains on its single farm site and is a member of the Society of Independent Brewers; in 2024 it acquired the Little Valley beer brand and now brews those recipes at Winestead too. The shop and office open on weekdays with limited Saturday hours, and the farm setting keeps production and provenance side by side rather than in an anonymous industrial unit.
