Hegarty's Butchers

Hegarty's has been the butcher on William Street in Derry since 1928 — the city's longest-established family butcher, meat sourced locally and cut to order over the same counter. It is a single shop, run the old way, and it has outlasted the supermarkets that were supposed to end shops like it. The city's food-hygiene inspectors were in as recently as late 2024, and the shop keeps trading, as it has through the better part of a century of Derry's history. There is no website to browse — you go, you queue, you talk to the butcher. Which is rather the point of a butcher.
