Jude Kereama — New Zealand-born, of Maori and Chinese-Malay heritage — has cooked at Porthleven's harbour head since 2006; kota is the Maori word for shellfish. Twenty years on, the restaurant holds three AA rosettes, awarded in 2018 when it was one of only four in Cornwall, and a Michelin Bib Gourmand, and Kereama cooked at the banquet as the South West's Great British Menu champion in 2021. Since November 2025 Kota has traded as a private room within Kota Kai, the more casual sister restaurant he opened in 2011 — two restaurants under one roof, dinner Thursday to Saturday. The cooking crosses Cornish seafood and organic produce with the flavours of his heritage. He and his late wife Jane, who brought him to Cornwall, established both.
