MMX Gallery occupies a former photography studio on New Cross Road, founded in 2014 by Mark and Magdalena Shackleton. The gallery gives photography sole billing, showing new and established photographers alongside archival prints recovered from previously unseen collections. It operates from a Victorian-fronted building, kept as an intimate viewing space rather than a large exhibition hall, with each hang built around a single body of work rather than a mixed group show. The gallery has shown at Photo London, the London Art Fair and the LAPADA fair, and pieces by its represented photographers have entered private and institutional collections. Its programme spans documentary and abstract approaches to the medium, with part of its focus on recovering vintage prints that had sat unseen in archives before being brought back into circulation.
