Dean Storey took over cheesemaking at Monkland in 2024, continuing a business Karen and Mark Hindle had run as Monkland Cheese Dairy for 28 years. He inherited recipes for Little Hereford, Monkland and Blue Monk, made with raw milk from local herds, but had to rebuild a customer list that had shrunk to four regular orders. Eighteen months on, he supplies more than forty accounts and sells at farmers markets in Ludlow, Abergavenny and Hay-on-Wye. At the 2025 Artisan Cheese Awards his Little Hereford and Blue Monk both won silver, with Monkland taking bronze. Visitors can book a dairy tour at 10am or 11am on make days to watch curds being cut and wheels turned in the maturing room.
