Newmans Garden Centre grew out of a market garden that Arthur Newman ran at Capel Dewi, outside Aberystwyth, after starting out growing tomatoes and vegetables at Goginan and supplying two shops in the town. The garden centre proper was established in 1988 on the same Capel Dewi site, where it remains today, run independently rather than as part of a group. Much of the plant stock is still grown on the premises rather than bought in wholesale. Alongside trees, shrubs and bedding plants, the centre carries gardening equipment, furniture, aquatics supplies and gifts, with a cafe on site for visitors. It has traded from Capel Dewi for over three decades under the same family, building a local reputation for plant advice as much as for range.
