Robert Martin and Anthea McWilliams founded R-Space Gallery in 2011, setting it inside The Linen Rooms on Castle Street, a Georgian building that was once the Rectory to Lisburn Cathedral. McWilliams grew up in the house as a child before it passed to her, and she and Martin took on its restoration alongside establishing the gallery. R-Space runs a programme of contemporary visual art and craft exhibitions by local, national and international artists, together with artist talks, workshops and outreach projects aimed at widening access to the arts. Recent shows have included a photography and sound installation by Kim Coleman examining rural electrification. The gallery operates as a not-for-profit rather than a council-run venue, funded in part by Arts Council Northern Ireland. Located at 32 Castle Street, Lisburn, close to the cathedral it once served as a rectory.
