Adam Smyth Patterson opened his shop at 18 Market Square in Lisburn in 1936, having previously traded with farmers and sold animal feed. After his death in 1949, his teenage sons Harold and Hubert took over the business, developing it into builders' merchants and agricultural suppliers before shifting toward homeware. Colin Patterson, the founder's grandson, now runs the shop, which trades across three floors behind a narrow street frontage, stocking furniture, lighting, electrical appliances from brands including Bosch, Hotpoint and Dyson, toys, gifts and a wedding gift registry. The business has never expanded beyond its original Market Square site or joined a franchise group, unlike several rivals that have since been absorbed into national retail chains. Open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5.30pm, closed Sunday.
