Saltaire Brewery was set up in 2005 by Tony Gartland and Derek Todd, who met on a brewing course in Newcastle. The brewhouse occupies a former electricity generating hall beside the Leeds and Liverpool Canal in Shipley, a short walk from the Saltaire World Heritage village. Its cask and keg beers run from pale ales and hoppy session bitters to darker stouts and porters, and the brewery packages the range in bottle and can for the off-trade. The on-site tap room and shop open Wednesday to Sunday, pouring around fourteen lines including cask hand pulls and keg, with a canalside beer garden used by walkers and cyclists on the towpath. Bottles and cans are sold to take away. The business remains independently owned and brews from this single Shipley site.
