Shivering Mountain Distillery is a small gin distillery on a hillside farm above Hathersage, established in 2019 by a group of friends as a community enterprise. Its copper still, named Little John after the Robin Hood legend associated with the area, produces small batches of Premium Dry, Premium Pink and Early Harvest gin using local botanicals sourced where possible from the Hope Valley and wider Peak District. The distillery takes its name from Mam Tor, the nearby peak known locally as the Shivering Mountain because of its history of slippage and erosion. Its gins have won silver medals at the London Spirits Competition. The business favours local suppliers and small-batch production over volume, selling through its own site and Peak District stockists rather than as part of any larger drinks group. It operates from a single site at Mount Pleasant Farm, overlooking the village and the surrounding hills.
