Stanley &Ramona

Stanley & Ramona is a small coffee shop on Bishopthorpe Road run by mother-and-daughter team Val and Emma Carr. The café occupies a single narrow room that seats about five people indoors, with regulars often perched at the window bar. Coffee is served alongside homemade cakes, among them an Earl Grey, raspberry and rose tea loaf and a lemon, polenta and almond cake, plus sourdough sandwiches at lunchtime. The name has no connection to either owner: a previous customer misheard an earlier owner explaining there was standing room only and assumed they were introducing themselves as Stanley and Romano. The shop opens Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from half past eight and at weekends from nine, closing on Thursdays. Co-owner Emma Carr describes the atmosphere as small but with a nice energy.
