The Bread Shop Bakery on Aigburth Road began trading in 1958 under founder Len Gordon, who named the business Gordon's after himself. His grandson Alan now runs the counter, having moved back from Holland to keep the family shop open rather than let the site close. The bakery still makes its own croissants and salt-and-pepper sausage rolls each morning, alongside pies, jams and bacon sourced from other small independent producers. A cabinet of gluten-free and vegan bakes sits beside the traditional counter, a concession to changing customer habits rather than a change in the shop's character. Locals queue for the Sunday-morning rush, when barms and hash browns sell fastest. The shop still carries household basics such as kitchen roll alongside the bread, a holdover from its days as a corner grocer's under the Gordon name.
