The BelvedereArms

The Belvedere Arms sits on Sugnall Street, a small cul-de-sac in the Georgian Quarter, and was rescued from closure and planned housing redevelopment in 2006. It is a genuine free house, with the same individual owning both the freehold and the leasehold, a rarity among Liverpool's pubs. Landlord John O'Dowd also runs Liverpool Gin from the same address, a joint venture with Liverpool Organic Brewery, so bottles of house-made gin sit behind the bar alongside four rotating cask ales from small breweries. The Grade II listed building keeps its two small rooms and nineteenth-century etched glass intact. Musicians from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, based nearby on Hope Street, are counted among the regulars, and the pub hosts occasional live music in its cramped front room. It is often named among the smallest pubs in the city.
