The DunCow Inn

The Dun Cow Inn is an 18th-century pub on Front Street in Sedgefield, run by the same licensee for more than four decades. The building holds three separate bar areas, including a small farmers' bar that functions as a snug, plus a dining room serving lunch, evening and Sunday menus built around locally sourced meat and vegetables. Three real ales are kept on rotation alongside a wider range of draught and bottled beer. Upstairs, the inn lets rooms for overnight stays, though its day-to-day trade centres on the bar and restaurant rather than accommodation. Sedgefield's market-town setting means the pub draws passing trade off the A689 as well as regulars from the village itself. The interior keeps older features - low ceilings, wood panelling and an open fire - alongside more recent refurbishment of the dining areas. It operates independently, with no tie to a national pub company, and opens seven days a week from late morning into the evening.
