Gavin O'Brien and his wife Mari opened The Glasgow Vintage Co on Great Western Road in 2011, having already built a local following running Watermelon, a vintage stall on the same street that closed the following year. The shop spreads across two floors of a brick-walled building near Kelvinbridge: womenswear, dresses and accessories on the ground floor, menswear including jackets, shirts and shoes in the basement, plus a rail of children's clothes. Stock spans roughly five decades, from 1960s to 1990s pieces, priced by people who have traded second-hand clothing for years rather than treating vintage as a passing trend. The couple later opened a second, identically named shop in New York's East Village, though the Great Western Road premises remains the original and the one they run day to day.
