David Sternberg trained as an actor for two decades before turning a teenage record-collecting habit into a business, buying and selling vinyl for the past fifteen years after an earlier collection he built up and then sold off. The Little Record Shop on Tottenham Lane stocks second-hand rock, reggae and jazz alongside whatever turns up from house clearances and collections he travels out to buy in person, cash paid on the spot. DJ and broadcaster Gilles Peterson has named it among his favourite record shops in London. The shop also runs a free collection service for anyone with records to sell, rather than requiring customers to carry boxes in themselves. Open Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons only and closed midweek, Sternberg runs the counter alone, trading on knowledge of what collectors are actually looking for rather than volume.
