W & JSloan's Butchers

W & J Sloan's Butchers trades from 95 Main Street in Alexandria, the current premises of a family butchery business that traces back to 1898, when William Sloan opened W. Sloan Butcher in Dumbarton East. Derek Sloan opened the present Alexandria shop in 1995 and continues to run it today with long-serving butcher Hugh. The shop sells Scottish beef, lamb, pork and poultry, along with its own steak pies, steak burgers and Lorne sausage, and offers a build-a-pack service letting customers assemble a mixed box of meat to order, priced from around £35 to £110. Home delivery runs on Wednesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons for local customers. The shop keeps shorter hours midweek, closing over lunch on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and is closed on Sundays and Mondays. It remains a single-site, family-owned butcher rather than part of a wider chain, serving Alexandria and the surrounding Vale of Leven.
