Potter Mick Casson and his wife Sheila founded Wobage Farm Craft Workshops on a restored dairy farm near Upton Bishop in 1977, drawing students from across the country to residential summer schools during the following decade. Courses today range from weekend introductions to seven-day residencies, covering throwing, altering and slip-decoration, and are taught by resident makers including Patia Davis, who works in slip-decorated earthenware and porcelain. The farm's Threshing Barn has been converted into the Wobage Makers Gallery, showing work in wood, furniture, jewellery, textiles and pottery from the site's resident craftspeople, open Thursday to Saturday between March and Christmas. Visiting students share the throwing studio with working potters rather than a purpose-built teaching room, giving the courses a working-farm rather than college character.
