Zohaib's family has run Zero Plus Fish Bar on Cowbridge Road East since 1991, a straightforward chip shop rather than a sit-down restaurant, built around a fryer and a takeaway counter. Locally the couple behind the counter are known simply as Mama and Papa, a nickname that has stuck through the family's time serving this stretch of Canton. The shop sources its fish only from suppliers certified to sustainable stocks, a policy applied to a menu that otherwise sticks to chip-shop basics: cod, haddock, sausages and pie alongside chips cooked in the traditional style. There's no delivery app tie-in pushed here, and no attempt to reinvent the format with burgers or loaded fries. On a Friday night the queue still runs out of the door, for chips fried by the same family who opened the shop in 1991.
