Back's Delicatessen sits on Heaton Moor Road, opened in 2007 by James Folkman after fifteen years in restaurants and catering. The concept meshes a New York deli tradition, drawn from Folkman's own family history in the trade, with continental and local produce: cured meats, unusual cheeses, fresh bread and a rotating stock of small-production wines and local beers sit alongside a deli counter serving coffee and lunch. Staff sample the stock regularly so recommendations come from direct knowledge rather than a supplier's sheet. The shop also runs an outside catering operation for corporate and private events. It remains one of the few delicatessens in this part of Stockport still run by its founder rather than a chain.
