Ben Reid Garden Centre on Countesswells Road traces its name to Ben Reid, who founded the firm in 1807, making it one of the oldest garden businesses in North East Scotland. It is now run by fourth-generation family members Simon Fraser and his sister Katie Lindsay, who continue to select and grow varieties suited to the region's exposed, often cold climate. The centre stocks trees, shrubs, perennials and bedding plants alongside gardening sundries, tools and outdoor furniture, and includes a café for visitors. Staff draw on more than two centuries of local growing experience when advising customers on what will survive an Aberdeenshire winter. The business remains independently owned rather than part of a national chain, distinguishing it from several larger garden centre groups operating in the wider Aberdeen area.
