Bijou Bookshop trades from inside the Pumping Station, a Grade II listed former sewerage works on Penarth Road built between 1907 and 1910, now home to more than forty independent traders. The shop is run by a mother and daughter, Kay and Francesca, whose stock leans towards antique, rare and vintage volumes, including Folio Society, Heritage Press and Limited Edition Club titles alongside first editions dating back to the early 1800s. The pair began selling books after visits to Hay-on-Wye, drawing on a family background in antiques to build up stock of more than fifteen hundred titles. Housed within the wider antiques centre, the shop shares the building's free car parking and its Victorian ironwork, with parts of the original engine room still visible nearby.
