Bluebell Cottage Gardens and Nurseries grew from fields around a cottage on Lodge Lane in Dutton, first cultivated as a garden and nursery in the 1990s by Diane and Rod Casey. Sue Beesley, winner of BBC's Gardener of the Year in 2006, took over the plot in 2007 after discovering it back on the market, moving her family from Warrington to run it. The nursery specialises in hardy perennials, growing more than eight hundred varieties to peat-free, pesticide-free standards, and Beesley launched one of Britain's earliest specialist online nursery shops in 2010. The garden opens Wednesday to Saturday through the growing season, with a tea room among the borders, and takes part in the National Gardens Scheme each June. It remains a single site with no other branches.
