Phil and Jenna Garvey opened Cap and Collar on Queens Road in November 2014, the first micropub to open in West Yorkshire. Phil has described the business as a people business first and a beer business second, and the pub keeps to a simple open-plan room with no music, television or fruit machines to get in the way of conversation. Hand-pulled ales from established Yorkshire breweries such as Ilkley and Thornbridge sit alongside newer names like Cloudwater and Wishbone, and a fridge the Garveys call their vertical cellar holds a rotating stock of cans and bottles from smaller producers across Europe. The pub has appeared in the Good Beer Guide for three years running. As a free house, the beer list changes from one week to the next rather than following a single brewery's range.
