Craig Eyles trained in contemporary ceramics at Wolverhampton University and taught art in secondary schools before setting up this wheel-throwing studio at 4 Summer Hill in Frome. He works mainly in stoneware, building composite forms by throwing separate sections and cutting and altering them once leather-hard, then firing at 1280 degrees to bring out layered matt and gloss glazes. The studio doubles as a teaching space: one-to-one and couples lessons run through the week for complete beginners, alongside gift vouchers for a taster session at the wheel. Finished pieces range from single mugs to larger vessels sold through the Frome Independent market, and Eyles also tutors at Frome Community Pottery. Lessons are booked in advance rather than walked into.
