Faculty Coffee occupies a narrow unit at the southern end of Piccadilly Arcade, thirty seconds from New Street station, where owner Geoff Lam opened the shop in 2014 after running Saint Caffe elsewhere in the city. Faculty operates as a multi-roaster, changing its espresso and filter offer weekly and drawing on producers such as Bath's Round Hill Roastery and Colonna Coffee. Wood floors and exposed brick give the room a post-industrial feel, softened by a small kitchen turning out seasonal brunch dishes. Regulars come for the changing guest coffees as much as the consistency of the pour, and staff talk customers through origin and process without ceremony. It has become a fixture for commuters and coffee obsessives alike since opening.
