Ghyllside Cycles

Ghyllside Cycles has traded in Ambleside since 1961, moving from its original premises on Rattle Gill to its current shop at The Slack, where it still operates as a single site. Now run by Calvin and Kevin, the shop combines bike sales, hire and repairs, with a particular focus on bikepacking and gravel riding suited to the fells and bridleways around the central Lakes. Customers can hire bikes by the half-day, full day or longer for routes into the surrounding valleys, with the workshop handling servicing and repairs for both hire and customer-owned machines. The business marked sixty-five years of continuous trading in 2026, making it one of the longer-established cycle shops in the Lake District, and it remains independently owned rather than part of a retail chain.
