Great Comp Garden surrounds a seventeenth-century manor house at Platt, near Sevenoaks. Roderick and Joyce Cameron began developing the seven-acre grounds from 1957, hand-building an Italian Garden with mock ruins from sand and stone dug on site, and opened it to visitors in 1968. It now holds one of the larger salvia collections in Europe alongside magnolias, rhododendrons and woodland walks. A charitable trust set up in 1992 keeps the garden open to the public.
