It is commonly described locally as the city's only independent record shop, distinct from the chain music retailers that have closed their Sunderland branches over the past two decades. The shop takes part in Record Store Day each year with exclusive releases and in-store events. Run independently rather than as part of a wider retail group, it occupies a single unit on Waterloo Place, a short walk from the Bridges shopping centre and Sunderland railway station, and remains a fixture for collectors and gig-goers buying physical music and tickets in the city centre.
