Machina Coffee

Steve Glencross spent two decades in the music industry before opening Machina on Marchmont Road in 2013, directly across from the Meadows. The shop functions as both café and outlet for the roastery, which operates separately near Arthur's Seat, with green beans arriving from small producers and roasted in batches before being bagged for sale over the counter. Indoors, two connected rooms seat around fifty people; from April to September, another two dozen can sit outside facing the park. Filter, espresso and batch brew are served alongside cakes and pastries baked by local suppliers. Weekday mornings draw laptop users, though the café stops offering table space to them at weekends when demand from walk-in customers takes priority. Steve remains involved in day-to-day roasting decisions.
