Built in 1883 as a private family house, Highfield Guest House on Mayfield Road in Newington has operated as a guest house since 2008 under owners Maggie and Gordon. The Victorian townhouse retains original features including cornicing and fireplaces, and offers en-suite rooms with a cooked Scottish breakfast served each morning. It operates as a single, family-run property rather than part of any wider group or franchise. Mayfield Road forms part of a row of Victorian terraces built for Edinburgh's professional classes during the city's expansion south of the Meadows in the later nineteenth century, and Highfield's frontage retains its original stonework. The property is a short walk from the Royal Commonwealth Pool and Holyrood Park.
