Peterson Pottery Studio works from Clay Cottage at 48-50 Wellington Street, a Grimsby building left derelict for around fifty years before potter Donnas Peterson restored it. Self-taught and Grimsby-born, she trained in studios in Holland and Sheffield before setting up on her own, and now throws and hand-builds everything on the premises. The studio is best known for collectable pie funnels, with more than forty original designs sold to collectors worldwide, a run that led The Times to call her the prima-donna of piebirds. She also makes thrown bowls, cups and vases, animal sculptures and portrait commissions of pets and people, and has produced public pieces including a life-size donkey at Cleethorpes Pier Gardens. Visitors can watch work in progress and book wheel sessions and classes. It opens Tuesday to Saturday.
