Chris and Cheryl Sadler turned their dairy farm at Hurleston over to ice cream in 1986, and their daughters — Hannah, Kitty and Cleo — lead it now, a second-generation operation with thirty-six flavours on the board. The farm announces itself from a distance: since 1998 the family has raised a giant straw sculpture in the neighbouring field most summers, and the 2015 Dalek took a Guinness World Record as the largest Dalek sculpture ever made. The parlour at the farm opens daily, ten to six in summer and ten to five in winter; there are offshoots on Chester's riverside and a seasonal stand at Alcumlow, but the farm is the source, and the milk is the point.
