Steep Hill Wines has traded from 25 Steep Hill, in Lincoln's Cathedral Quarter, for more than thirty years, and remains a family-run wine and spirit merchant rather than part of a chain. The shop occupies a centuries-old building on the city's steepest historic street, between the Cathedral and the High Street, and stocks small-batch spirits, wines from smaller producers worldwide, and a range of Lincolnshire-brewed beers, ciders and gins. Staff run regular tastings for customers wanting to try before buying, and the till point doubles as an advice counter for anyone asking what to pair with a particular meal. The shop has kept its name and location through changes along Steep Hill, where several other independent traders have come and gone. It holds an Alcohol Wholesaler Registration Scheme reference, evidence of trade as well as retail business.
