Dentist Richard Porter became guardian of local historian John Wield's collection of photographs and ephemera in the early 1980s, on condition it go on public display. When Wield's bungalow came up for sale in 1985, David Radford led a public meeting that voted to found a trust to buy it and house the collection inside. The Woodhall Spa Cottage Museum Trust formed in 1986, and the museum opened the following May. Today around 27 volunteers and nine trustees run the registered charity with no paid staff, showing Victorian and Edwardian life through toys, games and a recreated period grocer's shop. It opens Tuesday to Saturday, 10:30am to 4pm, with last admission at 3:30pm.
