The Ale House occupies a corner site on John Street opposite Stroud's Cornhill Market, converted into a free house in November 2012. It serves ten rotating cask ales alongside home-cooked curries and chillies, hosts weekly jazz, blues and folk nights, and deliberately has no fruit machines, pool table or television, favouring conversation and traditional pub games instead.
