Luke Honeychurch took over The Hog in Horsley in April 2020 and spent the first lockdown renovating the pub before reopening it as a free house, meaning the beer list answers to no single brewery. Local ales and ciders from breweries a few miles down the valley sit alongside guest lagers, chosen pub by pub rather than dictated by a supply contract. Weekends bring pop-up dining nights and live music rather than a fixed kitchen menu, so what's cooking changes according to who's been booked in. The pub sits at The Cross in the middle of the village, a mile from Nailsworth, and keeps village pub hours: closed until 3pm on weekdays, opening at midday Saturday and Sunday. Reservations are only taken for tables of six or more, leaving walk-in space for regulars.
