Trading since 1962, The Muffin Man is generally described as the oldest tea room in Kensington, occupying a small corner unit off Kensington High Street. The shop keeps a plain, old-fashioned layout of small round tables and black-and-white photographs on the walls, serving loose-leaf and flowering teas alongside Devon cream teas, cakes, pastries, salads and light lunches. Current opening hours run 9am-5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am-6pm Friday to Sunday. The business has continued to trade under the same name for more than six decades on Wrights Lane, a street where several independent shops have since been replaced by chain outlets. It remains a single-site tea shop rather than a group, best known locally for its scones and traditional afternoon tea service rather than any recent change of format or ownership.
