Founded in 1927 by Alfred Green and his sons, who were invited to work from the Chenil Gallery in Chelsea by its founding directors Augustus John and Bernard Shaw, the business began supplying artists' materials and hand-made frames. In 1934 it moved to 259 King's Road, into a building that had previously housed a shop for the Suffragette movement. Rodney Baldwin, who joined as a trainee manager in 1972, bought the business from the Green family in 1978 and expanded the art materials side alongside framing. A 2018 move, supported by a local crowdfunding campaign, brought the shop to its current premises at Chelsea Cross on Fulham Road. Framers still cut and gild bespoke mouldings on site, and the shop stocks oil, acrylic and watercolour paint, printmaking supplies, artists' papers and gilding materials, with a small gallery showing changing exhibitions. It is registered as Green & Stone Limited, company number 11534784.
